The 1934 Teamsters Strike\, the 1983 P9 Hormel Strike\, the 2021 John Deere Strike\, and the 1992 Southern California Drywallers strike all are celebrated in ballads. The deadly 2013 Sartell Mill explosion is commemorated\, as is the East Palestine OH derailment\, in a song written in response to the unfolding news while the recording was underway. There’s even a moonshining ballad about the MN 13 whiskey distilled in my hometown during Prohibition.

DESCRIPTION:Jack Schabert is a Twin Cities based musician\, composer\, and educator. He performs professionally around the metro with various jazz groups\, and is an Instructor of Percussion\, Piano\, Drum Set\, and Jazz Studies at various music schools in the area. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield\, Minnesota. \nJack leads professional jazz ensembles in the Twin Cities\, and has performed over three hundred shows over the last few years. His compositions for Jazz Orchestra have been performed by high school\, college\, and professional big bands in Minnesota. He is a member of the Twin Cities Jazz Composer’s Workshop\, and is currently serving a term on the Board of Directors of the MetroNOME Foundation. He books and arranges youth jazz performances for MetroNOME Brewery’s Next Generation Jazz Series. \nHis group\, the Blue Ox Jazz Trio\, is consistently upholding a busy performance schedule\, performing at restaurants\, clubs\, weddings\, private events\, and countless retirement homes every year. They also perform at the Twin Cities Saturday Night Jazz Series at KJ’s Hideaway\, and at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Jack has performed with international jazz artists Steve Wilson\, Melissa Aldana\, Kenni Holmen (Price\, Vulfpeck)\, Danilo Perez (Wayne Shorter Quartet)\, and 9 time Grammy Award winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.
